Introduction to me and how I got to Israel

Hello everyone out there, for those of you who do not know me, my name is Hanni. For those of you that do know me my name is still Hanni. I do not spell it the same way as others with that same name, but, in Hebrew we are all one and spell it the same way.
I would like to tell you a little bit about myself where I came from and how I got to Israel.
I grew up in the Midwest in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Minneapolis is 8 hours from Chicago by car. There was and not sure now but when I was growing up a small community of Jews. I loved the area where there were Jewish stores and my favorite Synagogue on the North Side, but, then riots came out in 1968 and I was not there then and Jews moved away and my favorite Synagogue was turned into a Church. I no longer liked it. My parents moved to the suburbs and I hated it there so when could afford to moved to an apartment. My apartment was flooded out and then moved to a cool studio apartment up on a hill and I loved it.
I really did not form my own personality till I came to live in Israel and decided things for myself. I voted how my parents did there. I was not interested in politics or in Israel for that matter. I used to travel a lot and when I grew up and wanted to find another place to live other than Minneapolis. I really was not happy there any longer. The Jews were not so friendly and it was boring and the winters too long. I had a friend that lived in Phoenix, Arizona and would visit her thinking of going there, but, there was something missing. I started to think about visiting Israel and going to live there.

I met with someone that is called a Shaliach that lives in Israel and helps those that want to go live there. He told me all the negatives here. I decided to visit the country the year before I came to live here. I know visiting and living are not the same thing. I got a feeling of the country and found what I was looking for. I found that I can be free to be a Jew here and that was it. The next year on a cold and rainy and windy November in 1986 I came to live in Israel. I went to live in an apartment hotel instead of a place where new immigrants we are called live. A new immigrant gets certain rights for a certain amount of time that others do not get. I cannot say it was easy. I was 36 years old and came on my own. What I had with me were independence and my survivor skills I learned as a kid.
I absorbed myself so I really got to know how things are here. It was very hard and there are times it still gets hard. I remember I had to do something at the telephone company and found out that they were all on vacation. I had to go to offices and there was only one person to deal with and if they were not there had to keep coming back. One of the words that we are taught is patience, but, not all Israelis have it. I met various people from different backgrounds and culture than how I grew up.I moved a lot in the beginning. I moved a lot because I moved to temporary places till I could move to the place I would stay longer. The longer I was here the more I began to learn and then my journey began. I started to begin to become more religious and then I started to decide how I wanted to be politically. Israel is a very political country. I met all kinds of people here, but, now I am pleased to say that I am happy with where my journey led me to so far. I am saying so far because it is not over yet. I still have more to contribute to my life here.
I am happy where I live but, still not sure I am on the right path yet as far as what I want to do with my life yet.
I learned computer graphics and when the opportunity came I decided to go out on my own and see how people would receive me. I learned a lot along the way, but, my clientele has dwindled down and have to think of other ways to make money.

I am going to try something new on blog and hope it will work out much better than what I had before.
